Discover the region
Heritage, gastronomy, vineyards, beautiful landscapes, festivities... It's all here to seduce you. Wonder, amazement and satisfaction guaranteed!
The Bertranges Forest
The lungs of the Nièvre, the Bertranges forest holds a special place in the hearts of the people of this region. It's a paradise for hikers, who can enjoy a breath of fresh air alongside centuries-old oak trees. Even the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela passes through a Fort des Bertanges. There are plenty of walks, mountain bike rides and horse rides on offer.
Charité-sur-Loire, a monastic town
Discover the "Ville d'art et d'histoire" (Town of Art and History), with its lower town quarter and old streets, the Notre Dame church (UNESCO World Heritage Site), its priory, and don't miss the breathtaking view from the ramparts to the north of the town. Guided tours are organised by the Tourist Office.
The Côtes de la Charité
A territory on the fringes of Burgundy and its wines, the Loire Valley was originally destined to honour Bacchus. Strictly speaking, this is not a land of vines, but these wine-growing plots are full of nuggets to be enjoyed in moderation.
In the footsteps of the old factories
The machines have fallen silent, and all that remains of our industrial heritage are remnants of a working-class soul that lives on in the walls of the old factories. Abandoned, destroyed and sometimes reborn, this is the fate of these buildings, witnesses to a bygone era that nurtured the men and women of the Nivernais region: Guérigny (home of the Forges Royales), Prémery, Les Forges de la Vache.
Activities to discover
Canoeing, cycling (Loire à Vélo) and numerous events (Festival du mot, Blues en Loire, etc.).
